Dr. Danielle R. Harrell is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Louisiana and Texas. Dr. Harrell conducts research at the intersection of social work and education, and employs quantitative, qualitative, and community-based participatory research methods to understand social-ecological influences associated with child and adolescent mental health (e.g., depression and suicidal behaviors) and academic functioning among economically disadvantaged Black and Hispanic youth. Her research program strives to elucidate patterns, processes, and factors within the family and school context that are drivers or eliminators of mental health and educational disparities confronting minoritized youth, with the aim of developing culturally relevant and responsive models of mental health and well-being in K-12 schools. Dr. Harrell earned her PhD in Social Work with a minor in Educational Research and Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Biology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Dr. Gwendolyn W. Hollinger, LCSW, BACS is a  Lafayette Parish School Social Worker. She is an Adjunct Professor at Tulane University, and a Doctor on Demand Clinician. Her research focus is the restoration of Zero-Tolerance Policies (ZTPs) in public schools as they relate to Behavioral Alternative Schools (BASs). Her quantitative, and qualitative research spotlights the disparities and inequities that exists in the education system and how they are perpetuated through BASs. She hopes her research will assist in efforts of policy change moving the current BASs into self-directed learning with social and community supports, not only to promote social justice but allow restoration of ZTPs to focus on their original designed purpose – the need to keep children of all races safe in school.

Dr. Hollinger obtained her Doctorate of Social Work from Tulane University (Brick and Mortar), her Master’s of Social Work from Louisiana State University, and her Bachelor of Science in Communications and a minor in English from Alabama State University.
